The Comedy School Trust work in a range of areas:

Mental Health

We've been working in this field since 2008, with the aim of improving mental health and wellbeing using comedy.

In 2016 we delivered taster sessions, and a 7-week Introduction to Improvisation course to users of mental health services in Brixton, along with organised visits to live comedy events. These have blossomed into a wider developing programme of comedy courses and continuing drop-in sessions.

“Impro bought out a side of me that’s been hidden my entire life. In the course, and in impro generally, taking risks is positive, constructive and life affirming. I can honestly say that, for me, it’s been a life changer!” Participant from 7 week Improvisation course.

Your funds will go towards the cost of future tuition and evaluation of this project.

Knife Crime

It's No Joke! is a fast-paced performance and workshop project for young people using comedy to explore the legal, emotional and physical consequences of knife crime.

Following a devastating spate of tragic knife-crime incidents, It’s No Joke was developed in 2005 with the aim of increasing awareness of these issues amongst young people and involving them in finding solutions.

A lot of the children told me how much they had learnt from the show… a professional, realistic and accessible production… very worthy of funds… it will save lives.” Rosemary Kilbride, Head Teacher, St John Vianney Primary School Haringey (2010)

Your funds will help us cover the costs involved with taking this play to more schools - actors, lighting, a technician, PA and transport.

Ex-offenders / people at risk

The Comedy School has been delivering projects within the Criminal Justice System since 1998. We deliver workshops, residencies and shows to prisons, Young Offenders' Institutions and secure units. Comedy is used as an educational and rehabilitative tool allowing people to develop critical skills such as literacy, presentation, and confidence building.

“It was brilliant and priceless. Thank you all, each and every one of you.” – Julie, participant in recent course for female ex-offenders in Islington 2017

Your funds will go to support tuition costs of running sessions with ex-offenders and people at risk, and project evaluation.
