Impressionist Workshops with Alan Mitchell

Introduction to basic impressionism

This workshop sets out to teach ... the basics of impersonation and mimicry. Looking at how we can work towards a good vocal and physical impersonation using vocal characteristics, physical signatures and personality to help access the voice/character.



Who should do this course?

Anyone who has tried impersonations and would like to get better or just to try out so they can add another comedic string to their bow! Anyone who loves impressions and has enjoyed the past work of Mike Yarwood, Rory Bremner and Alistair Mcgowan to name a few. Also those who remember their teachers at school and tried to impersonate them! Anyone who loves film stars/celebrities and has always wanted to 'take them off'!


What is taught in the Workshop?

The basics of impersonation including:-

  • Vocal characteristics and how to adopt them.

  • Where the voice sound comes from. Head. Chest. Mask of face etc.

  • Visualizing the subject when speaking.

  • Using personality/attitude to access the voice.

  • Vocal signatures.

  • Physical signatures.

  • Pitch & Pace.

  • Swapping from one impersonation to another in a stand-up/sketch show.

Alan Mitchell

Alan is a character/comedy actor and impressionist who has done impressions in both Stand-up and Sketch on the London Circuit including tours with Stand Up for Labour.


This year he was a regular on the online show 'Stay Home For Labour' as 'Boris On The Bog (Johnson)'.


As an actor Alan has appeared in the West End and all over the country in everythig from Shakespeare to the Pantomime Dame. His credits include Up and Under, The Old Curiosity Shop (Player's West End & Tour) The Tempest, Outside Edge (Canterbury) Tartuffe(Isleworth) The Wizard of Oz (As the Lion who became Tony Blair!) A Fistful of Mondays (Oxford) and as hopeless West Ham fan Malcolm in 'Just like My Dreams' at the King's Head Islington. He did a UK Tour of The Sherlock Holmes Suite with Jazz saxophonist Alan Barnes playing all the parts from the stories as Narrator between 2002-05.


As a Voice Artist he has appeared in many commercials in roles as diverse as Polo the talking Dog for Trusted House Sitters to Tony Blair and William Shatner for the Talking Shop/INVICTA FM in Kent.


Alan has also taught Drama, Music and Special Educational Needs in mainstream education since 2002 and has been a Labour Councillor in Hounslow since 2014.
