Introduction to the basics of illusionary Mime Technique:
This workshop sets out to teach the fundamental basics of classic mime principles. Techniques taught will include: The wall, manipulating objects, walking in the wind, the mime walk, the moon walk, robotics, fixed space, fixed objects, pushing and pulling, point of focus and the French pantomime.

Who should do this course?
This workshop is design for people who have very little to no knowledge of mime at all. It’s a starter course in illusionary mime open to all ages from 16 years upwards. It’s ideal for performers, actors and anyone who has always wanted to learn mime for themselves.

What is taught in the Workshop?

Basic of Mime Fundamentals. Preparation includes: Tension - Release - Reverse - Curves.

Principles of Pushing & Pulling Objects - The Rope - The Punt - The Wall.

Understanding the aspect of Resistance - Different Qualities of objects.

Knowledge of Mime Principles - Fixed Points - Fixed Space - Suspension - Robotics.

Non Verbal Communication - Using the Breath to create different emotions.

Qualities of Substance - Earth - Air - Water - Fire.

Mime Walks - Slow Motion - Running - Walking on the Spot - Moon Walks.

Using Music with Mime - working with Music in Performance.

Apply Skills in Performance - A mini group Performance is worked on.

In 2014 RICHARD KNIGHT (B.Ed) worked with Andy Serkis during motion capture work for the physical Vocabulary for Iron Man and Ultron for the film ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

He was also the personal mime tutor for Carey Mulligan for the feature film ‘Suffragette’, and was a physical comedy consultant for the RSC ‘Arden of Faversham’.

Richard has been a personal tutor for Ben Cohen and Kristina for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2013 as well as a Body Language expert for James May’s ‘Man Lab for the BBC.

He has also taught Physical Comedy at The National Theatre, was a slow motion expert on Tim Burton’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ and has taught, performed all over the world including the Royal Family of Dubai, Qatar and Buckingham Palace.

Other teaching merits, include the Royal College of Music, both Oxford and Cambridge Universities and many of the UK top acting Schools.

He currently teaches at East 15 Acting School, Mime, Physical Theatre, Clown and Commedia Dell Arte.

Richard originally trained at as a Drama Specialist (B.Ed), trained with Jacques Lecoq, Philipe Gaulier, Antonio Fava and also at LAMDA.

He now continues to teach, direct and perform all over the world with his Theatre Company MIME THE  GAP - www.MimeTheGap.com
