The Comedy School is the only arts organisation of its kind in the UK which works with comedy in many different settings. We aim to raise the profile of the many uses of comedy, from stimulating personal creativity to encouraging social skills and improving literacy. We achieve this through our innovative workshop, performance and arts projects. more

The Comedy School is a non profit organisation and relies heavily on volunteers and donations. We also welcome any specialist advice or work that can be given pro-bono. The Comedy School regularly runs both arts and issue based projects with young people, in schools, youth centres, in association with Youth Inclusion Projects, Youth Offending Teams and Safer Schools Teams. more

Current ongoing projects include:

I'ts No Joke
a performance and workshop project which has been developed to address the issues of anti-social behaviour and weapons related crime among young people more

Gang Busters
an interactive performance module for young people dealing with issues surrounding gangs and gun crime more

Mosiac Project
The theme is 'Say No To Guns & Gangs'. Students will learn the ancient educational art form of Mosaic to create art work which affects people's behaviour and attitude towards their environment - and to raise and promote awareness, participation and ownership of an urban environment. more

O U R   W O R K   I N   P R I S O N S

The Comedy School has been delivering projects within the Criminal Justice System since it was founded. We deliver workshops, residencies and shows based on performance and other arts skills to prisons, Young Offenders' Institutions and secure units. The art forms are used as educational and rehabilitative tools. All activities are devised to address the specific needs of offenders more


The Comedy School runs a number of courses open to members of the public. These courses cover stand up comedy, improvisation, comedy acting, comedy and clowning, mask work, writing and general advice on the entertainment and arts sectors. We run a one week summer course and our Funny Festival one day course in the autumn. In addition, we can arrange to visit community groups, colleges and drama schools to run programmes more
