SARAH HUGHES has been a casting director for the last 20 years, splitting her time evenly between theatre and television (with occasional forays into commercials and film), and focussing largely on comedy casting.
In theatre, Sarah was Alan Ayckbournís casting director for seventeen years before his retirement in 2009, casting world premieres of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough, in the West End, at the National Theatre and on Broadway, as well as all other productions at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. She continues the relationship with Alan and the SJT on a freelance basis.
In television, she freelanced for the Entertainment department of the BBC for 10 years, casting and co-casting many comedies and comedy dramas such as JONATHAN CREEK, PULLING, LOVE SOUP, 2 PINTS, THE OLD GUYS and THE GREAT OUTDOORS.
In 2012 she has been working full time casting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies.
Sarah has a strong interest in diversity in casting, and in particular in promoting the work of actors with disabilities.
